Firestone Mine

A recent discovery has sent excitement, wonder, and greed through the various lands of Smithonia - new veins of Primal Rocks have been discovered, and Firestone Mine is now open to goblin miners!

Firestone Mine is a single-player, interactive staking game surrounding resource acquisition set in the Smithonia universe.

In-universe, Firestone Mine is the first Primal Rock mine in the world for generations, and is run entirely by goblins; although not the only resource in the mine, Primal Rocks are the most valuable. Everyone is eager to get their hands on the magical resource, from adventurers and lordlings to thieves and pirates. So much so, that Firestone Mining literally cannot ship the magical stone fast enough to appease customers, no matter the number of new goblin hires brought in. The pirates and highwaymen have only exacerbated the situation as everyone panics and buys as much Primal Rock as they can before the mine runs dry.

This panic is despite the Mining Guild’s survey estimate that it’ll take several years for veins in Firestone Mine to slowly be depleted, Primal Rocks and other resources becoming harder to source as the mine runs dry.

Players have the opportunity to participate in this “gold rush” by earning or purchasing Pickaxe NFTs. Each Pickaxe purchased and staked represents a goblin worker in the mine, and each type of Pickaxe symbolizes the employment/skill level of the miner.

Every Pickaxe will slowly mine/generate Primal Rocks and other resources, however, quantity will depend on the type of Pickaxe staked within the mine. After the resources are mined, players can use them to craft, upgrade, or even sell them at the mine's Store.

Mine Operation:

Once a pickaxe has been acquired, Firestone Mine is the player’s to explore, upgrade, and of course, mine. Here is how this works:

  • Each initial area will have 1-3 procedurally generated minable locations, and more areas can be unlocked by expanding and upgrading the mine. Clearing boulders expands the mine on the current level, while repairing stairs upgrades the mine to the next level.
  • Each deposit generates a specific resource, and only one pickaxe can be staked on a deposit at a time.
  • There are 3 classes of rocks, which determine how long a resource will take to mine:
    • Small Rocks take 6 hours to mine.
    • Medium Rocks take 24 hours to mine.
    • Large Rocks take 48 hours to mine.
  • The type of pickaxe stakes acts as a multiplier for the resource drop rate when mining, as well as the spawn rate for Smithy loot Chests.
    • These base rates for resource and chest drops increase as the mine is upgraded.

The more Firestone Mine is updraded, and the deeper into the mine explored, the more the drop rate of resources and Smithy Chests will increase.

Types of Pickaxes:

Wooden Pickaxe:

A Wooden Pickaxe represents a goblin miner working the mine on behalf of Firestone Mining. The players are not their employers, but rather the purchaser of the goods. For example, Players who have the Wooden Pickaxe staked, "purchase" ore from Firestone Mining - but because this is a large company and the island is far away, the supplies arrive in small shipments. This is the easiest way to get Primal Stones and other resources from the mine.

Wooden Pickaxes mine at the standard rate and have the lowest chances of dropping.

Iron Pickaxe:

An Iron Pickaxe represents a private contractor / freelance goblin miner that the player has hired and sent to the island. Because they are hired privately, supplies arrive more regularly and with better quality. However, hiring a private miner is expensive because of the remote nature of the island.

Iron Pickaxes mine twice the standard rate, earning more per stake than Wooden axes.

Gold Pickaxe:

A Gold Pickaxe is the best of the best and represents a private contractor/freelance goblin miner who has joined the Mining Guild. Because the Mining Guild only allows the best miners to join, the holders of a Golden Pickaxe see greater returns from their Guild miner.

Unfortunately, these miners are very rarely available to hire, so it is often easier to simply sponsor a Guild applicant. (Aka: upgrade from Iron to Gold)

Gold Pickaxes mine four times the regular rate, which means players earn much more per stake!

Transforming a Wooden Pickaxe into Iron:

A player can transform a Wooden Pickaxe into an Iron one for a small fee (currently 0.01eth). This will automatically transform the Wooden Pickaxe, allowing players to gather twice as much resources from a deposit in Firestone Mine.

Transforming an Iron Pickaxe into Gold:

A player can transform an Iron Pickaxe into a Gold one by burning a Legacy Pass with a 25% success rate, allowing players to gather four times as much resources from a deposit in Firestone Mine.

This is because this operation is not simply purchasing a new Guild Miner. Instead, they are sponsoring the application of their current miner to the Miner’s Guild. As the Guild prides itself on being the best of the trade, not all applications are accepted.

Upgrading the Mine:

As miners explore Firestone Mine, they will discover boulders needing to be cleared and stairs needing to be repaired. Completing these tasks will unlock other resource deposits, discover new areas, and upgrade the level of the mine. As the mine’s level increases, so does the drop rate of resources and Smithy Chests.

Currently, Firestone Mine can have 13 max deposits of one resource type.

Repairing Stairs:

Repairing the stairs between levels in the mine requires resources gathered in the mine and Wood. Wood must be purchased at the mine’s Store. This upgrade also has a 20% chance of success, which may appear daunting. However, every failed upgrade increases the chance of success, depending on the mine’s level. For example, this chance increases by 5% per failure at level 1.

In addition, the resource cost to upgrade Stairs increases the deeper into the mine explored.

Clearing Boulders:

Boulders can block the path of miners and take time to clear. However, multiple Pickaxes can be staked to expedite the process, allowing players to expand the level(s) of the mine already unlocked.

Resources and Rewards:

Within the depths of Firestone Mine, players can find deposits of Bone, Stone, Copper, Silver, Iron, and Primal Rock. These resouces are the cornerstone of the crafting and upgrading ecosystem in Smithonia. In addition to resource aquisition, players can find random loot chests, and sell their excess resources in the mine's Store!

Wood cannot be collected within Firestone Mine, but can be purchased through the mine's Store.

Resource Statistics and Data:

At the launch of Firestone Mine, there were 10 million initial resources available. This represents all potential resources within the mine.

Every month, the initial supply will decrease by 1/12th until Firestone Mine runs out of resources - this is expected to happen several years in the future.

Additionally, all resources in the game are subjected to a 10% burn rate upon utilization. The remaining resources are returned to a separate allocation pool for future recycled use.

All resource gathering and drop rates within Firestone Mine are based upon 1,000 players mining at the same time, per hour. Thus, the fewer players mining at the same time, the greater the rewards. At the same time, however, it means that as more players mine simultaneously, they will mine fewer resources.

The Store's supply of Wood will be restocked daily.
