Upgrading and Crafting

The underlying foundation of the world of Smithonia is an intricate and vital crafting/upgrading system that can make or break a warrior’s career out in the dangerous wilds of Smithonia. Both standard and magical resources are necessary components in crafting and can help or hinder the player’s progression.

Upgrading Pickaxes

There are three types of Pickaxes in Smithonia, Wood, Iron, and Gold. Each one is better than the last. These pickaxes can be upgraded, until the premium Gold pickaxe is reached.

Upgrading From Wood to Iron

A player can transform a Wooden Pickaxe into an Iron one for a small fee (currently 0.01eth). This will automatically transform the Wooden Pickaxe, allowing players to gather more resources from Firestone Mine.

Upgrading From Iron to Gold

A player can transform an Iron Pickaxe into a Gold one by burning a Legacy Pass with a 25% success rate, allowing players to gather four times as much resources from a deposit in Firestone Mine.

Upgrading Living Weapons

There are 8 possible upgrade levels, living weapon starting as level 1 and each level upgrade requires their corresponding Prism and resource to craft. However, not all crafting attempts will be successful. A successful upgrade will depend upon the weapon’s experience and hardness level. A living weapon with low experience will be less likely to successfully upgrade to the next level, though Hardness increases with every upgrade attempt.

Potential crafters be warned, however, that a warrior’s weapon must be resilient enough to handle the transformation. If a weapon’s Health drops to zero, it will break.

Weapon Experience

Weapons can gain experience by being utilized across the game - for example, being equipped in the MOBA or being staked for a quest. Weapons with more experience points are more likely to successfully upgrade and less likely to break.

Weapon Hardness

Each time a weapon upgrade is attempted and fails, the weapon earns a Hardness rating in addition to taking damage. Hardness increases with each attempt, building the weapon’s resilience and increasing the chance of a successful transformation.

A weapon's Hardness level resets after a successful upgrade.

Using Primal Rocks

Primal Rocks can be mined from the Firestone Mine, which is currently the only known active mine for the coveted stone. After the Primal Rocks are harvested, they can be staked with Living weapons to create the Prism associated with that weapon type.

Creating and using Prisms

Prisms can be created by staking a Living Weapon with a Primal Rock, which then transforms the Primal Rock into the necessary upgrade Prism. This transformation initially takes 24 hours but is decreased by 2 hours for every level of the staked weapon.

Players can take the correlating Prism and necessary resources to craft the next level of their weapons.

Upgrading Weapon Skills:

Weapon skills will add unique gameplay and versatility to the game. There will be weapon-type skills, that can only be applied to weapons of the same type, and utility skills, that can be applied to any weapon. Players will be able to swap (amongst type and utility) and upgrade these amazing skills.

They will be available for purchase in the Shop for $SGC, and multiple copies of a skill will be required for upgrading. Skills will also be found in the Battle Pass, on Quests, and throughout Smithonia.

Staking and Upgrade Equations:

Players can stake their weapons to increase their hardness level, which directly affects the success rate of upgrades. Each stake lasts for 24 hours, allowing players to gradually accumulate hardness over time.

The amount of hardness gained per stake ranges from 0% to (20% - weapon level).

The maximum hardness level attainable is (100% - (5% * weapon level)), ensuring a scaling progression.

The success rate of upgrading a weapon depends on its hardness level.

The maximum hardness level acts as a cap on the effectiveness of each level.

Upon a successful upgrade, the hardness level is reset.

Maximum Hardness = (100% - (5% * weapon level))

Hardness Gained Per Stake = 0% to (20% - weapon level)

Weapon Experience Drop Rate Bonus = Base Drop Rate + (High Score / Score Threshold) * Drop Rate Bonus

Weapon Health

Every time a Weapon upgrade is attempted, there is a possibility of failure depending on the weapon’s stats, one of which is Health.

Each time a weapon upgrade fails, the weapon will take damage. If the weapon’s health reaches zero, then it will break and need to be repaired. Weapon repairs will require the magical resource, Souls.

Crafting Armor

Players have many opportunities to receive armor across the universe of Smithonia. Most armor sets will give the wearer stat boosts in at least one attribute - eg. 10% movement speed. While others may include other amazing abilities.

Some pieces of gear can be discovered in Loot Boxes, or unlocked via the Battle Pass. However, there is another avenue available to Smithonians: Crafting.

Smiths and armorers are revered across the lands of Smithonia for their skilled trades - especially the rare Mastersmiths scattered across the maps. However, with time, patience, and practice players may too join the ranks of these elite craftsmen and create their own armor, all based on the materials gathered and the recipes known.

Then, the choice must be made, should a player don bone or stone armor or hunt down the resources for iron armor?
